Students present papers at 2007 Academy of International Business conference

Four students and four recent alumni from the School of Business presented papers at the annual conference of the Southeast chapter of the Academy of International Business Nov. 7 to 9 in Nashville, Tenn.

The papers, which were based on research conducted in France, Germany and the United States, will be published in the conference proceedings.

Jennie MacDougall and Geoff Sawyer, both alumni from the Class of 2007, received the Best Student Paper Award for "A Three Country Study on Entrepreneurial Intent and Gender." MacDougall and Sawyer earned bachelor's degrees in international business in May.

Alumnus Charles Bjernstad and junior finance major Michelle Vasapoli presented "Culture Values: Examining the Difference between Hofstede's Sample and University Business Students in France, Germany and the United States." Bjernstad earned a bachelor's degree in international business in May.

Sofia Kyritsis and senior Tara McRae, an international business major, presented "Entrepreneurial Intent and Parental Entrepreneurial Experience in the U.S., France and Germany." Kyritsis earned a bachelor's degree in international business in May and is now in the master of business administration program.

Stephanie Logan and Juan Rodenas, both seniors majoring in international business, presented "A Three Country Cross-Cultural Study on Entrepreneurial Intent."

The students and alumni began their research in the undergraduate course "Research and Field Experience in the European Union" during the Spring 2007 semester led by international business professor Robert Engle. He accompanied the group as they continued their research in France and Germany for more than three weeks in the summer of 2007.

In France, students visited businesses in Paris, Rennes, St. Malo, Mount St. Michel and Fougeres and attended lectures by professors from ESC Rennes School of Business. In Germany, students visited businesses in Magdeburg, Berlin, Leipzig and Wernigerode and attended lectures by professors from Otto Von-Guericke University in Magdeburg.
