School of Communications appoints advisory board
April 30, 2008

David Donnelly

ABC News reporter Bob Woodruff, ESPN vice president Bryan Burns and the voice of the New York Mets and New York Islanders Howard Rose are among the members of the new School of Communications advisory board.

Members of the board will provide input on the school's strategic plans, goals and mission; serve as external advocates for the school within the private sector to strengthen existing relationships and to forge new affiliations; and assess the success of the school's programs.

"We worked hard to establish a balanced and diverse board with representation from across the media industry and have pulled together highly successful alumni, parents of students who are well placed in the media business, and accomplished industry professionals," said David Donnelly, dean of the School of Communications.

"We especially wanted to ensure we had expertise in interactive media, so we have some great representatives from ESPN.com and BET.com. We also enlisted experts in sports media who can help expand our popular sports offerings and achieve national visibility in that area," Donnelly said.

The board will meet twice per year, once in the fall and once in the spring; its first meeting is May 7. The board will include three subcommittees, which may draw membership from outside the board:

  • Executive committee to determine the advisory board's membership, organization and operation
  • Career development committee to enhance placement opportunities for students and alumni
  • Philanthropy committee to locate sources for funds and gifts to support the school's strategic goals.
