David has been executive director of the institute since January 2002 and is also an adjunct professor of Latin American studies, philosophy, and international business. He holds a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in student personnel and counseling, both from Ohio State University and worked on a doctorate in Latin American history at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica, where he taught agriculture. As Rotary Peace Forum Coordinator for Rotary International, he set up conferences on peace around the world.
He holds extensive global experience in higher education and the non-profit sector, most recently working as program manager at the Countryside Exchange, The Glynwood Center in Cold Spring, N.Y. He was the executive director at The Louis August Jonas Foundation in New York for 11 years, where he ran an international leadership training program for young people from countries with histories of conflict. He is directing the Albert Schweitzer Institute by building a strategic planning process, which will expand its visibility and programs in health, humanitarianism and peace. He is the co-president of the United Nations Association of New Haven and a member of the International Consortium on the Arms Trade Treaty.

Jo Palmieri, research and development coordinator
Jo has been with the institute since January 2002. She organizes the logistics for all the international conferences sponsored by the institute. She is also responsible for developing and coordinating student and community programs to continue the promotion of Dr. Schweitzer’s message. Jo researches grant opportunities and assists in the writing of grant proposals and all Albert Schweitzer Institute publications. She also handles the daily office administrative duties such as finance, maintenance of the Schweitzer museum and supervision of student employees.
Jo holds BA and MBA degrees from Quinnipiac, is fluent in Italian and worked as an editor for a technical publisher before joining the Albert Schweitzer Institute.

Peck joined the institute in the fall of 2008. She assists faculty members in developing international programs in Central America and around the world and coordinates peace mission trips for students to Nicaragua. She previously was a staff member at Family Centers in Stamford, a nonprofit organization offering education and human services to families in lower Fairfield County.
Peck holds a master's degree in media, conflict and peace studies from the University for Peace in Costa Rica. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Quinnipiac in 2006. As a Quinnipiac student, Peck studied in Nicaragua; Cape Town, South Africa; and Tralee, Ireland. Following Quinnipiac, she taught English at Alianza Americana in Leon, Nicaragua. She is fluent in Spanish.
