Kevin Aries

Kevin Aries, a senior broadcast journalism major, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Connecticut Public Broadcasting, Inc.

Competition for the scholarship was open to college students planning to pursue a career in the field of broadcast journalism. Selection was based on grades, volunteer service, extracurricular activities, adult recommendations and 300-word essay.

"The scholarship means a lot to me because though I have dedicated my past three summers to internships, they have all been unpaid," Aries said. This summer, he's working full-time as a camp counselor during the day, and then heads straight to his internship in the evening. "It is rewarding to know that my hard work has paid off," he said.

Aries is an intern at the Fox affiliate in Boston (Fox25- WFXT), where he writes for the station's evening newscasts and helps out at the assignment desk. He's also had the opportunity to interview Bill Gates, John McCain and actor Steve Carell through the internship.

On campus, Aries is involved with the campus television station, Q30, and will be the executive producer for newscasts beginning in the Fall.
