Alumnus creates $50,000 scholarship
Dec. 18, 2007

David Altschuler '73

David Altschuler, CFP, of Woodbury, N.Y., has donated $50,000 to create the Altschuler Award in Support of United States Veterans.

The endowed scholarship will be awarded to full-time students who are U.S. veterans, children of veterans or spouses of veterans with demonstrated financial need. As many as five applicants will be selected annually, beginning in the Fall of 2009.

"When people make a commitment to serve their country, our country has an obligation to recognize them, not just by treating our wounded, but by also rewarding them and their families for taking the risks they were exposed to, for the injuries they sustained and the sacrifices they made," said Altschuler, who earned his bachelor's degree in business studies from Quinnipiac in 1973.

"It is in the spirit of gratitude to our veterans and my desire to do what I can, to say 'thank you' for the sacrifices that they made and continue to make every day, that I established this fund," he said.

This is the second endowed scholarship that Altschuler has funded in recent years. In 2006, he created the Altschuler Family Scholarship to help the children of widowed or divorced parents to plan for a Quinnipiac education.

The annual award from the endowed scholarship is directed at business and communications majors in their junior or senior years whose parents are divorced or widowed.
