Summer Camps

QUEST Camp
July 14-18, 2008, at Quinnipiac University's campus in Hamden, Conn.

Quinnipiac University's Engineering Science and Technology (QUEST) Camp will introduce high school students to intensive STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) content and laboratory activities under the guidance of the Bioanthropology Research Institute and Quinnipiac University faculty. Working with a genuine mummy, "George/Fred" from Ripley's Believe It Or Not, students will work as research teams to uncover the mysteries surrounding the mummy's life, death and mummification.

Students will participate in laboratory investigations including:

  • Study of decomposition and the environmental factors that influence it
  • Examination of a real mummy
  • Paleopathology and parasitology
  • Field paleoimaging studies including radiography and video endoscopy
  • Mummy dietary analysis, aging and sexing
  • And more!

Tomorrow's Nurses Camp
July 14-18, 2008, at Quinnipiac University's campus in Hamden, Conn.

Students enrolled in Tomorrow's Nurses: An Exploratory Nursing Camp for high school students, will explore the role and gain some of the skills needed by nurses. This camp is an opportunity for high school students who are considering a career in nursing to learn about the profession and the many nursing specialties under the guidance of Quinnipiac nursing professors and students. Students will have the opportunity to gain insight into the career opportunities in nursing and interact with nurses working in a variety of settings.

Students will participate in the following activities:

  • Learning about the profession of nursing
  • Meeting with nurses who work in a variety of specialty areas to learn about their roles
  • Earning CPR certification
  • Learning how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver
  • Observing a mock code scenario for a patient demonstrating to have a heart attack
  • Meeting the health care team from LIFE STAR, Hartford Hospital's critical-care helicopter service
  • Experiencing a patient simulation experience in our new simulation lab
  • Learning basic first aid and nursing skills
  • Learning and observing different complementary health care modalities such as massage, aromatherapy and hypnosis therapy
