Five students recently pooled their money together to support the Special Olympics Penguin Plunge, an annual fundraising event that encourages people to collect pledges and then jump into the chilly ocean on a winter's day.

The students, sophomores Robert DePaola, John Healey, Andrew Errico and Adam Sosler, and freshman Elizabeth Clark, served as a bronze-level sponsor for the event under the name "Shivering Students."

The event, which was held on March 8 at Compo Beach in Westport, Conn., drew more than 450 participants and generated $145,000 in funding for Special Olympics.
