Greek Chapters

Participating in Quinnipiac’s vibrant Greek life are eight local chapters of nationally recognized organizations, which are listed below.

Sororities

Alpha Chi Omega
Founded on Oct. 15, 1885, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., Alpha Chi Omega takes as its motto, “Together Let Us Seek the Heights.” Today, Alpha Chi Omega boasts 135 chapters across the United States and a headquarters in Indianapolis. Quinnipiac’s chapter, Iota Phi, received its charter on April 5, 1997. With scholarship, leadership and community service as their goals, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega work together to overcome the effects of domestic violence against women.

Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Delta Pi, originally called The Adelphean Society (from the Greek word for sister), was the first secret society for college women and was founded on May 15, 1851, at the first institution in the world to grant degrees to women: Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. The women of Alpha Delta Pi carry the open motto "We live for each other" with them daily as they espouse and enact the guiding principles of scholarship, leadership, sisterhood and service.

Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in 1870 as the first Greek-letter fraternity for women. The group values its history and takes pride in its four founders. The organization's vision statement is: "Kappa Alpha Theta is the organization that provides the finest and most rewarding membership experience." The organization's purpose is to support members to learn, grow and excel. Its core values are personal excellence, friendship/sisterhood, scholarship, service and leadership.

Phi Sigma Sigma
With the motto “Aim High,” Phi Sigma Sigma is a national sorority committed to lifelong friendships, university and community involvement and superior leadership and academic skills. Founded at Hunter College in New York City on Nov. 26, 1913, the sisterhood established its Zeta Zeta chapter at Quinnipiac on March 23, 1991. At Quinnipiac, the annual 24-hour Rock-a-Thon, benefiting Phi Sigma Sigma’s national philanthropy, the National Kidney Foundation, provides sisters with the social and philanthropic outlets that are central to the sorority.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is the only African American sorority of the Divine Nine not founded at Howard University, but rather at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., on November 12, 1922. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is recognized as a national service organization, and is grounded in the principles of sisterhood, scholarship and most importantly service, as expressed in its slogan, "Greater Service, Greater Progress."

Fraternities

Delta Tau Delta
Founded 1858 at Bethany College in West Virginia, Delta Tau Delta is a values-driven fraternity. Its mission, "Committed to Lives of Excellence," is what the fraternity seeks to represent at its host institutions. Delta Tau Delta strives to develop its members' leadership skills, seeks superior academic achievement, promotes community service efforts, and helps its members launch successful careers. Sigma Phi Epsilon
Founded on Nov. 1, 1901, Sigma Phi Epsilon is the nation’s largest fraternity, with more than 257 chapters and a total membership of 242,500. It also holds the highest national GPA among fraternities. Its mission to build balanced leaders for the world’s communities is supported by the award-winning, nationally recognized Balanced Man program, a nonpledging, four-year leadership-development program that focuses on members’ personal growth.

Tau Kappa Epsilon
Tau Kappa Epsilon is the largest social fraternity in North America, with more than 320 chapters and 300,000 undergraduate initiates. The only international fraternity at Quinnipiac, it offers young men the chance to make important friendships and develop personal skills that will benefit them long after graduation. Membership is open during major rush campaigns in the fall and spring.
