The Quinnipiac University campus
FAQ

Do I need special software or equipment?
The technology requirements are:

  • A computer
  • An Internet connection (high-speed access recommended, such as cable or DSL)
  • Latest version of Internet Explorer Web browser (We recommend using Internet Explorer, as it is the only browser supported by the University's Help Desk. However, students may use any browser.)
  • An e-mail account provided by the University
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (available for downloading from Quinnipiac's Web site or students can purchase a CD of all three programs for $10 on campus)

What is the course schedule for this program?
Courses run in seven-week modules during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the two Summer semesters, courses run in seven- and five-week modules, respectively. All courses are delivered through a Web-based application. Practitioners are required to attend a two-day, on-campus orientation at the beginning of the program and at the end of the program as part of the scholarly seminar.

Is there any portion of the program that needs to be done on campus?
There will be an on-campus orientation. For those who cannot travel to campus for the orientation, there will be an option to attend via the Internet in real time. However, it is preferable for students to attend the on-campus orientation; students will have the opportunity to meet on-campus participants with whom they will be in frequent contact during their course of study. In addition, Quinnipiac University Online staff will orient students to the software that will be used in their course work.

When an occupational therapist with a bachelor's degree applies for the master's program, is a standardized test such as a GRE or GMAT required for acceptance?
The Post-Professional Occupational Therapy program does not require a standardized test for admission. Admission is based on academic records (transcripts), references and a personal statement concerning a student's motivation to enter the program.

When you enroll in a master's program, do you choose a specialty?

  • Assignments will be customized to each student's area of specialty area of practice
  • Each student will learn advanced practice concepts through content in his or her specialty
  • Research and special projects are geared toward a student's specialty area of practice

Is a mentor available for ongoing questions and support?
All incoming students will have a faculty adviser. Both professors and clinical faculty may serve as mentors. In some instances, there may be a "master clinican" who will work with a student as a mentor. The director of the program, Ann Burkhardt, will offer individual attention to ensure students are meeting their personal learning objectives and are making sufficient progress on their papers and projects.

Is there a certain time of year when you can start the program?
The design of the program is for the sequence to begin in the Fall semester. In 2008-09, the inaugural class will begin in January 2009. Some courses are prerequisites for other classes, so the flow of the course work needs to align with these prerequisites.
