Beckett and Conlogue discussed "Old Bodies, New Tools: Paleoimaging Mummified Trauma." Their presentation examined the techniques of paleoimaging mummified trauma as a way to teach positioning and exposure techniques--a cutting-edge technology with an "ancient" twist. The lecture introduced the application of field radiography and endoscopy to detect trauma and paleopathologies among mummified remains.
The professors presented case studies from the files of the Bioanthropology Research Institute, which includes cases from the ongoing Guanajuato Mummy Project. The lessons learned from these historic and forensic cases will be correlated to the diagnosis and treatment of modern trauma patients.
