Graduate PLUS Loans

We recognize that students may need to rely on a variety of resources to assist them in paying for their educational expenses. We hope this information will allow for a better understanding of the federal alternative educational loan option. As you consider the loans from each program, be sure to keep in mind that some loans are more expensive than others.

The Federal Graduate PLUS loan program is available to graduate or professional students.

  • Students must be matriculated in a degree-granting program
  • Enrolled at least half-time (5 or more credits) for each semester in which seeking this loan
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible permanent resident
  • Have completed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form
  • Students may borrow up to the yearly cost of attendance minus any other financial aid
  • The loan has a credit criteria of being "creditworthy" or "credit ready" (good or no credit)
  • Borrowers with derogatory credit will generally not qualify for this loan without an endorser
  • Loan funds are directly disbursed to Quinnipiac University right before classes begin
