Curriculum and Requirements

Program of Study:
Students admitted to the master of science program in journalism may enroll on a full-time (three or more courses) or part-time basis. It is possible to complete the program in one calendar year if students meet all requirements, including the capstone experience (master’s project or thesis).

The program calls for students to take 30 credit hours of required courses (including the capstone) and six hours of electives for a total 36 credits. Each course carries three credit hours.

Students who demonstrate proficiency in any required course (except JRN 502) may replace that course with an elective with the permission of the graduate program director.

For students entering the program as of the Fall 2008 semester, the list of required courses and electives are as follows:
