Health Care Compliance Certificate Program

Compliance Certification Board logo

Compliance with federal and state regulations has become a major focus for all areas of the health care industry—from patient referrals to billing and documentation. As federal and state governments place more emphasis on investigating and prosecuting health care fraud and other types of non-compliance, the demand for health care managers and attorneys knowledgeable in these issues has never been greater.

The Program
Quinnipiac University, through a program jointly developed by its School of Business and School of Law, is certified by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) to offer the first university-based program in the country to train health care compliance officers. Recognizing the importance of compliance officers in all areas of the health care industry and the need to raise the level of professionalism of such officers, the two schools are committed to jointly offer this six-course certificate program in health care compliance.

The Quinnipiac University Health Care Compliance Certificate program provides qualified students with a sound academic foundation and the skills necessary to successfully implement the administrative and management principles required to function as competent and knowledgeable health care compliance professionals.

Health Care Compliance Certificate program courses cover the following areas:

  • Principles and specifics of health care compliance
  • Principles of general management
  • Legal aspects of health care compliance
  • Principles of financial management and auditing

Graduate courses in both the School of Business and the School of Law comprise the six-course certificate program of study. Students without a background in law will be required to complete HM 668, Legal Aspects of Health Care Delivery, as a prerequisite for the other law courses in the program. Most students admitted to the Health Care Compliance Certificate program enroll as part-time students. Learn more about the curriculum and requirements for this program

After satisfactory completion of the coursework, Quinnipiac will award a Health Care Compliance Certificate. The certificate will qualify students to take the HCCA national certifying examination.

Admission
Admission to the Health Care Compliance Certificate program of study is considered on a rolling basis throughout the year. Individuals who have five or more years of experience in the health care industry and hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university are encouraged to apply. The program of study is also available to Quinnipiac Master of Business Administration students, MBA in Health Care Management students, Juris Doctorate students, and law students pursuing a combined JD/MBA or JD/MBA in Health Care Management degree. Applications will be accepted from individuals with less experience in the health care industry, but a personal interview by the program faculty may be required of such applicants prior to a final admissions decision.

Candidates are encouraged to submit applications as early as possible to ensure consideration for the semester desired. A complete application consists of an application form accompanied by the application fee, two recommendations (professional), a current résumé, personal statement and official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate academic coursework.

This program may be completed entirely through online courses. It is also offered in an on-campus format. Learn more
