James Kirby

James Kirby, associate professor of chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, will present the lecture, "Research & Pedagogy: What Can a Freshman do With a POM (polyoxometalate) in Four Weeks?" on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 12 noon in the Carl Hansen Student Center, Room 207.

The lecture will take place during a meeting of Quinnipiac's chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.

Kirby will discuss his participation in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Joint Venture Program (NASA-JOVE) at Northwestern State University, where students performed research with NASA.

Kirby will discuss undergraduate research in chemistry and share the results of his students' research into various aspects of polyoxometalate (POM) chemistry in aqueous solutions and the solid state.

Kirby, who joined the Quinnipiac faculty in 1996, holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Trinity College, his M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and his PhD in inorganic chemistry from Georgetown University. He has taught at the College of William & Mary and at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, where he was a NASA-JOVE fellow.

This free community event is part of the Quinnipiac Sigma Xi Albert Notation Memorial Seminar Series. For more information, please call 203-582-8652.
