Designed as a complement to the marketing major, advertising is similarly founded in the strategic planning process.
The advertising major combines core business courses, relevant marketing courses and the technical skills of advertising.
The courses include:
Courses challenge students’ problem-solving, strategic planning and communication skills in the creative context of advertising, and prepare them for entry-level positions in the advertising field.
To apply classroom theories, advertising majors participate in the National Student Advertising Competition, work on a semester-long advertising campaign and are encouraged to participate in an internship program.
The bachelor of science in advertising prepares students for entry-level positions with independent advertising agencies; advertising media such as television, radio and direct marketing; and in-house advertising departments. The growth of the Internet also provides a new advertising medium that increases possible career paths.
The degree also provides students with the necessary prerequisites for graduate education.
