Departmental acceptance for honors in history normally requires an overall 3.25 average with a corresponding history average, including no history mark less than B. In addition, the candidate must write an honors essay (in HS 409) during the second semester of the fourth year. The student may, however, be given preliminary acceptance to begin research under advisement for his or her HS 409 essay as early as the second semester of the third year.
