The goal of the Quinnipiac undergraduate nursing program is to provide graduates with a broad and basic preparation for professional nursing practice. The undergraduate nursing curriculum fosters professional socialization for future roles and responsibilities within the profession. Graduates are prepared as generalists to provide evidence-based care.
The Department of Nursing prepares nursing students for entry-level professional nursing practice as skilled providers of holistic care for families and individuals of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds. Since nursing involves a wide range of responsibilities caring for patients across their life spans, the program utilizes a holistic framework throughout the curriculum.
Accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), Quinnipiac's bachelor's degree in nursing offers theoretical and clinical education as well as preparation for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN©)
Quinnipiac's strong affiliations with health care providers allow students to complete clinical work at institutions such as Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Hospital of St. Raphael, The Hospital of Central Connecticut, The Hospital for Special Care and Midstate Medical Center, as well as in private practices, outpatient clinics and community health centers.
The Department of Nursing recently developed two partnerships to enhance the clinical experiences for students:
Both partnerships offer students the opportunity to work closely with a nurse education specialist who seeks to provide each student with optimal learning opportunities.
The Department of Nursing has also partnered with Midstate Medical Center to create the MidState Medical Center Summer Clinical Internship, an elective course designed for nursing students who are entering their senior year.
Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program are well prepared for graduate study in nursing and may apply to Quinnipiac’s Master of Science in Nursing program as early as Spring semester of senior year.
Accelerated options are available for those interested in pursuing a second degree program.
