Students apply to the School of Education no later than December 1 of their sophomore year. Admission to the program is separate from admission to Quinnipiac. Transfer students cannot enter the program after the second semester of their junior year.
Academic Requirements
Students who meet these requirements are admitted:
- Minimum 2.67 (B–) overall undergraduate grade-point average from all colleges and universities attended and at least 45 college credits.
- A declared major for the bachelor’s degree.
- Students studying elementary education can choose any major the University offers; however, students are encouraged to choose a major from the College of Arts and Sciences or School of Health Sciences for better preparation in a subject they will teach.
- The School of Education requires students studying secondary education to choose a major from among the following: biology, English, history, mathematics, political science, sociology or Spanish.
- Passing score on the PRAXIS I exam (PPSTs) or a PRAXIS I waiver.
Application Process
Applying to the School of Education requires the following:
- Two written recommendations from individuals who have knowledge of your suitability as a prospective educator
- A written essay
- A formal interview to demonstrate your communication skills, ability to respond appropriately to classroom situations, demeanor appropriate to the teaching profession and commitment necessary to meet the program’s demands
Meeting the Program’s Standards
Students need to maintain a 2.67 (B–) overall undergraduate grade-point average. Students need to maintain a 3.0 grade-point average for graduate courses in each semester and earn at least a B– or better in all education courses. If you earn a C+ or below in an education course, you need to retake the course and earn at least a B–.
