Library Mission

An Exciting Future
The mission of the Quinnipiac University Library is to support the educational goals of Quinnipiac; to maintain a facility that functions as the information center of Quinnipiac; and to encourage members of the Quinnipiac community to become effective users of information through integrated, interdisciplinary learning activities.

Primary Objective
Store and maintain a systematically-organized collection of diverse resources representing a wide range of subjects, levels of difficulty, formats and technological delivery systems that directly support the undergraduate and graduate curricula.

Provide access to materials outside the Library facility through such mechanisms as interlibrary loan, networking and other cooperative agreements, and online searching of databases;

Offer instruction in the operation of equipment necessary to use the information in any format;

Promote efficient use of information through systematic learning activities that develop skills for selecting, retrieving, analyzing, evaluating and synthesizing information.

Secondary Objectives
Provide leadership and assistance in the use of instructional and information technology;

Provide resources and activities that contribute to life-long learning, while accommodating a wide range of teaching and learning styles, instructional methods, interests and capacities representing diversities of experiences, opinions, social and cultural perspectives

Support professional development and research;

Advance the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisites to effective and responsible citizenship.

It is the responsibility of the Library to take the lead in translating the mission into programs that make effective access to information a reality.

Achievement of this mission also requires: full integration of an information literacy program into the curriculum; partnership among the Library staff, instructional faculty and administrators; serious commitment of each of those partners to the value of universal and unrestricted access to information.
