About

Dr. Susan McTiernan is Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at Quinnipiac University. She previously served as Associate Dean at the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University and at the Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University, where she consistently earned awards for exceptional administrative performance and outstanding contributions to the institution. Dr. McTiernan possesses extensive experience in academic affairs, resource development and fund raising, enrollment management, external affairs, institutional positioning, faculty development and teaching and research. She has served as an elected member of the Graduate Management Admission Council’s Board of Directors and serves currently in leadership roles within AACSB International as a member of the steering committees for the Women Administrators in Management Education (WAME) and Associate Deans (ADAG) Affinity Groups. She is a Fulbright Scholar (Federal Republic of Germany) and, among other organizations, holds membership in the Financial Women’s Association (FWA) of New York, The Academy of Management, The International Association for Business and Society (IABS), the J. William Fulbright Association and Beta Gamma Sigma. She has served on the committee on corporate governance and board directorships for the FWA and has been the principal author of the organization’s annual report on the status of senior women executives and members of boards of directors of the 100 largest publicly traded companies in the metropolitan New York region-The FWA 100- published in conjunction with the Deloitte Center for Corporate Governance. Dr. McTiernan earned her doctorate in management at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, where she was a Packard Foundation Scholar and a Fellow of the University’s Mandel Center for the Study of Nonprofit Organizations. She holds a master’s degree, earned with distinction, from Hofstra University and a bachelor’s degree, earned cum laude, from Villanova University. Her research focuses on leadership, organizational behavior and women in organizations and her work has been cited by AACSB International, Newsday, Businessweek, USNews and World Report and Crain’s NY Business, among others, and been published in top tier journals and proceedings, including the Academy of Management Learning and Education. Dr. McTiernan has taught courses in organizational behavior, leadership and strategy at the graduate and executive levels. She serves as a reviewer for the Academy of Management Learning and Education journal and as a reviewer-at-large for the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. She enjoys travel, opera, theater and supporting animal rescue organizations and is an accomplished amateur chef.
