Pepsi Co. removes aspartame from Diet Pepsi

Victoria Richards

Victoria Richards, associate professor of medical sciences at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, is available to comment on Pepsi Co.'s decision to remove aspartame from Diet Pepsi.

"There has been renewed speculation about the safety of artificial sweeteners over the past few years, especially with the approval and introduction of advantame last year and the introduction of steviol glycosides to the market," Richards said. "The nationwide movement toward healthy alternatives may be fueling this action by Pepsi."

Richards holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Arizona.
