Nov. 8, 2013 - The Quinnipiac University Student Veterans Organization, which was recently officially chartered by the Student Government Association, hosted activities for Veteran's Day, Monday, Nov. 11.

SVO, which has about 50 members, sponsored "A Cup of G.I. Joe" in front of the Carl Hansen Student Center. The organization handed out free coffee and donuts and provided stationary for writing letters to deployed veterans. At 8 a.m., the flag in front of the Student Center was raised.

"The faculty, staff and student population at Quinnipiac really appreciate the veterans," said SVO president Matthew Bolton, a third-year occupational therapy student and former Navy petty officer. "This is a great way for the club to further enlighten people that we did serve our country and now we're here at Quinnipiac to get an education."

For more information, contact Bolton at 203-823-0309 or Jason Burke, director of veteran and military affairs, at 203-582-8867.

Burke said becoming chartered "is another step toward expanding the organization and having more interaction on campus."
