The financial commitment associated with joining a fraternity or sorority differs from chapter to chapter. All chapters should be transparent about all costs associated with membership. Semester/annual dues go toward a chapter operating budget, international and national headquarters support and resources, liability insurance, chapter programs, council dues, etc. New member semester dues are the highest as they usually include a one-time new member fee, new member materials and the membership badge/pin. Most organizations offer payment plans to members who may need to make smaller installment payments throughout the year. Each fraternity and sorority should make exact dues numbers available to prospective members during the recruitment process.

All members are expected to meet attendance requirements at weekly chapter and committee meetings; however, members of fraternities and sororities gain valuable time-management skills that will help with academic success and balancing other co-curricular involvement. Most organizations are supportive of the full schedules that many students have and offer as much flexibility as possible. Outside of the attendance requirements, members can put as much time into the organization as they wish to get the maximum return on their membership.

University policy, state law and all international and national fraternity and sorority policies prohibit hazing. Quinnipiac’s hazing policy can be found in the Student Handbook. We recognize that fraternity/sorority life and its activities may not be familiar to all parents, so please feel free to contact our staff if you have any questions or concerns about activities your student is participating in as part of any club or organization. All reports of hazing are taken seriously and are investigated in a timely manner.

Quinnipiac University does not offer dedicated fraternity or sorority housing. However, some members of the same organization may choose to live together during their time at Quinnipiac in residence halls or other living arrangements. Conversely, other members of our community choose to live with friends in other chapters or with students who are not affiliated with a fraternity or sorority at all.

Yes! You don’t have to be a residential student to join a fraternity or sorority. Many commuter students choose to do this as a way to make connections on campus.

You must be enrolled full-time as a QU student and meet minimum GPA requirements, which vary by organization (lowest is a 2.5). You must be in good standing with Quinnipiac University and have met all obligations, financial and otherwise, and adhere to campus, local and federal rules. For culturally based organizations, you must have one semester of college grades.
